Pantalica’s Rupestri Necropolis

Situated in the province of Syracuse, about 80km from Marzamemi, Pantalica is one of Sicily’s most important naturalistic-archaeological sites.

The site is on located on a plateau surrounded by a canyon formed by the Anapo and Calcinara Rivers. The area is famous for the presence of Sicilian and brown trout.

There is magnificent oriental Plane trees along the rivers, while on the rocks over them blooms of oleanders stand out.

Thanks to the presence of a number of necropolises, Pantalica stands out from an archaeological point of view and is a useful place for understanding the passage of time from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age.
